2010 financial results of SPP mostly influenced by ongoing economic crisis, arrival of competition and badly set regulation

Bratislava, 11th May 2011 – In 2010, the Slovak gas sector was particularly characterised by the ongoing impacts of the global economic crisis, growing competition and inadequately set regulation, which greatly impacted the financial results of the key gas supplier on the Slovak market – Slovenský plynárenský priemysel, a.s. (SPP). SPP managed to alleviate these adverse impacts mostly by applying strict measures in the field of cost reduction and by pursuing business activities on international markets. For 2010, SPP Group reported consolidated after-tax profit of 561 million EUR. The activities associated with natural gas transmission continued to represent the main pillar contributing most to the reported financial results of SPP Group.

Current situation in the regulated households segment in the Slovak

Bratislava, 7 April 2011 – Even if the natural gas market in Slovakia is fully open ever since from 2007, the households segment waited up for competition entry till the beginning of 2011. Whereas, this is still the segment subjected to price regulation, entry of new players was apparently conditioned particularly by currently favourable situation in the market. Due to fade-out of the global crisis, which led to demand drop and thereafter to gas excess in the entire Europe, price fall in spot markets occurred, which was used by several traders to purchase of cheaper gas.

Bratislava, 11 October 2010 – Slovenský plynárenský priemysel, a.s., (SPP) considers the decision of ÚRSO (Office for Regulation of Network Industries) to dismiss the proposed adjustment of regulated prices a step in the wrong direction and carrying serious consequences, as it fails to respect economic reality and the principles of cost reflecting and fair price regulation. The 2010 loss of the company in the regulated gas sales segments is going to arrive according latest estimations at an all-time maximum of € 80 million. The distorted regulation environment and absolute unpredictability of ÚRSO´s steps have escalated to a serious problem for SPP. SPP will appeal against this decision and resort to all other available legal means in order to protect the company´s interests.
